Australia has 5 main domain name extensions currently available for businesses and individuals:
- .com.au
- .net.au
- .edu.au
- .gov.au
- .au
There are more and you can read all about them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.au
But as an Australian resident, I have some opinions.
Why can’t we have more varieties that would interest the world to register our domain name extensions also?
Check out these ones from elsewhere:
- .so (Somalia)
- .ly (Libya)
- .cv (Cape Verde)
- .me (Montenegro)
- .co (Colombia)
- .at (Austria)
- .in (India)
- .ad (Andorra)
You have thousands of businesses from around the world, who can use these extensions creatively for their domain ones.
Australia can have some too, and I want to propose a few:
- .sy (sydney)
- .mb (melbourne)
- .pt (perth)
- .al (adelaide)
Would they work? They aren’t country-specific but we already have .sydney and .melbourne domain extensions. So, perhaps we can look at simpler and shorter ones?
